Free Fire Name Rules: Accepted Characters, Length, FF MAX & PC

Free Fire name rules set which characters a nickname can use in Garena Free Fire and Free Fire MAX: letters, digits, styled Unicode letters and single symbols are usually accepted, while colour emoji, the U+3164 filler (blocked since OB43) and deep stacked marks are refused. This page dates each rule to OB55.

Copy the safe characters first

These are the characters that pass the Free Fire name field most reliably as of OB55. The first button copies an invisible no-break space (U+00A0), the gap character that replaced the old U+3164 trick.

Accepted characters table (OB55)

The Free Fire name field accepts plain letters, digits, styled Unicode letters and most single decorative symbols, and refuses colour emoji, deep stacks of combining marks and the U+3164 filler. The last column says when each row was last confirmed; “verify” means it has not been re-checked on OB55 (released 16 September 2026).

Garena does not publish a full list of accepted characters. Rows marked “verify” come from how the name field has behaved on earlier OB versions; test a name by pasting it before you confirm a change.

How long a Free Fire name can be

The Free Fire name limit most often quoted is 12 characters, but Garena does not publish an official number and the limit has not been re-checked on OB55 — treat 12 as a guide and verify. Styled letters and symbols from outside the basic Latin range can take up more than one slot each, so a decorated name hits the limit sooner than a plain one.

  • Keep the core word to 4–9 letters and add one or two symbols, not five.
  • If the game cuts the name or refuses it, remove the outer frame (꧁ ꧂) first; it costs the most slots.
  • Nicknames must also be unique: if another player already has the exact string, the game asks for a different one.

Community names that already fit the rules

These nicknames from the FFNick library are 12 characters or shorter, contain no colour emoji and no U+3164 filler, so they match every rule on this page as written. The label shows the character count and the real like count; paste-test before you rename, because the length limit itself is not re-checked on OB55.

Symbols grouped by how safe they are

Symbols fall into three groups for Free Fire: single plain symbols that usually pass the name field, multi-character frames that pass but eat several slots, and kaomoji or colour emoji that are usually refused in the nickname but work in your bio, squad chat and other apps.

Single symbols — safest in the name field

Frames — pass, but use several characters

Kaomoji — bio and chat only

Emoji and cute marks — bio and chat only

FF MAX nickname and PC differences

A Free Fire MAX nickname is the same nickname as in Free Fire: both apps log into one account, so a name set in either shows in both. Whether the two apps filter every rare symbol identically has not been re-checked on OB55, so treat any difference you notice as “verify”.

FF MAX and PC nickname differences: one account, one Free Fire nickname
Where you play Name field What changes
Free Fire (Android / iOS) The game’s own filter Your phone’s fonts decide how symbols look to you
Free Fire MAX Same account, same nickname Higher graphics only — the name is shared
PC emulator The Android app’s filter, running on PC The PC keyboard and fonts: symbols a phone shows can appear as boxes on a PC screen

Why a name won’t save or shows boxes

A Free Fire name that shows boxes is usually fine — the device looking at it lacks a font for that character. A name that will not save is different: the game’s filter refused one of its characters. Work through these steps in order:

  1. Remove every colour emoji; keep plain symbols such as ★ or ♛.
  2. Replace any U+3164 gap with a U+00A0 space from the button at the top of this page.
  3. Strip combining marks that stack above or below letters (the “glitch” look).
  4. Delete spaces at the very start or end of the name.
  5. Shorten the name; drop the outer ꧁ ꧂ frame if it is still refused.

If a symbol shows as a box only on your screen but other players see it, nothing needs fixing — paste the name into a phone chat app to see how it looks with a phone’s fonts.

Changing your name: what it costs

Changing a Free Fire nickname costs 390 diamonds, or one Name Change Card if you have one from an event or the Elite Pass. That price is Garena’s and has not been re-checked on OB55 — verify it on the rename screen before you confirm. Because a rename costs real currency, test the exact string first: paste it into the name box, and back out if the game refuses it.

Who checks these rules

These notes are maintained by the FFNick editorial side, the same developer who runs the FFNick nickname library and its moderation. Each row carries the OB version or date it was last confirmed, and the page is updated when an OB patch changes the behaviour — the next scheduled Free Fire update is OB56, expected in December 2026.

Glossary

Unicode
The standard that gives every character, from A to ꧁, a code number. Styled letters are separate Unicode characters, not a font setting.
U+00A0
The no-break space: looks like a normal space but is a different character, and is the gap Free Fire accepts inside a name.
U+3164
The Hangul filler, once used for “invisible” names and blocked by Free Fire since OB43.
Combining mark
A character that attaches to the letter before it (accents, strikes, the glitch effect).
OB version
Garena’s name for each Free Fire update (“OB55”); the name filter can change with any of them.
Signature
The profile bio line, where colour codes such as [FF0000] work — unlike the nickname.

FAQ

How do I get an invisible name in FF?

Whether Free Fire accepts a name made only of invisible characters has not been re-checked on OB55 — verify before spending a rename. What is confirmed is U+00A0 for the gaps between words, since the old U+3164 filler has been blocked since OB43.

How do I write my FF name in style?

Type your name into the generator on FFNick (ff nickname), pick a style, tap Copy and paste it into the rename box. Check the result against the table above before you confirm.

What are name symbols in Free Fire?

Name symbols are decorative Unicode characters such as ꧁ ༒ ★ ࿐ placed around or inside a nickname. Single-colour symbols pass the name field far more often than colour emoji.

Where can I find names that already fit these rules?

The best Free Fire names list ranks nicknames players have copied and liked; pick one and run it through the checks above.
